Designing what everyone uses

A building serves the people who go inside it. A footbridge, a canal edge or a public square serves everyone who passes, most of whom had no say in it and will never be asked. That changes what good means.

Civic work has to survive heavy use, minimal maintenance and a climate that punishes shortcuts. It also has to be worth looking at, because a piece of infrastructure sits in a neighbourhood for decades and shapes how that neighbourhood feels about itself.

Crossings

Overhead pedestrian bridges are among the most-used and least-loved structures in Lagos. Most fail for the same reasons: the approach ramps are too steep or too long, so people cross at road level instead; there is no shade; and the structure corrodes faster than anyone budgeted for.

We design them around the walk rather than the span. Where people are actually coming from, what gradient they will accept, what happens in the rain, and what the structure will look like in fifteen years.

Canals and water

Lagos has an extensive canal and drainage network, and most of it is treated as a back edge — fenced off, dumped in, turned away from. Repurposed properly, the same channel becomes a linear public space, a walking route and a genuine uplift to the land either side of it.

This work sits between engineering and urban design: the hydraulic performance is non-negotiable, but it does not have to look like a ditch.

Masterplanning

For estates, campuses and multi-plot developments: how the site is reached, how it drains, where the public spaces sit, what gets built in which order, and how phase one pays for phase two.

Because we also develop, our masterplans carry a delivery logic as well as a layout. A plan that cannot be phased and funded is a drawing, not a strategy.
